Let There Be Light
During the summer months, quite the natural light display takes place inside the studio space. This happens in the early morning hours around 8:00 AM when the sun light beams through a very small window and aims straight towards a group of clear quartz crystals that are standing on a table. Not only is the window small, but it also has a drape covering three-quarters of it. For the Sun to shine at this angle, through the small opening and strike directly on to the focal point of crystals is quite remarkable and breathtaking to see in-person. In a way, it makes you think of mysterious structures of the past.
Ancient cultures all around the world built temples or placed stones to coincide with the Sun’s alignment and specifically for one day of the year that is Summer Solstice. Some famous ones you might be familiar with are Stonehenge, Machu Picchu in Peru and the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Was it used as a calendar, observatory, portal, a spiritual significance of some sort? The crystal light reflection in the studio is sheer luck, however cultures from thousands of years ago seemed to have vast knowledge on how to construct their temples to align with the sun with uncanny precision.
So what happens when Sunlight is not shining into the studio, when the drapes are shut and it’s just you and the crystals inside the room? The human eye can only see a certain segment of visible light so at times we’re a bit limited to what our vision can detect. I’m sure if you’re reading this you probably subscribe to the idea that are we are light beings, our soul is a illuminating light driven by energy centers anchored by rays of color that you might refer to as chakras. The sunlight reflection bouncing off the tips of crystals and colors scattered around the walls gives you a visual presentation of what might be happening when our bodies are in the space of crystals or out in direct sunlight. I say that because white light is a combination of wavelengths and all the colors together. So you see the direct connection I’m drawing to you between our soul spirits and the sun. These photos taken inside the office this time of year give you imagery of what our eyesight can’t regularly see.
